What is SSL?

SSL stands for “Secure Sockets Layer” and refers to a technology used to secure Internet connections between systems in order to protect sensitive data. Every visit to an SSL-protected website (identified by the https://-Präfix) first triggers a request for a secure connection. After verifying the unique SSL certificate for the requested domain and confirming the connection, two cryptographic keys, one on the visitor’s side and one on the domain’s side, encrypt the data using 128-bit or 256-bit encryption. The resulting secure connection ensures the protection of transmitted information and personal data.
