What is a Minecraft Vanilla server?
A Minecraft Vanilla server is a server running the official, unmodified version of Minecraft. At Host Honest, we give you the option to create such a server so you can enjoy the game in its purest form.
Do I need special knowledge to run a server at Host Honest?
A basic understanding of server management and networking can be helpful, but our user-friendly tools and guides make getting started easy. If you have questions, our support team and tutorials are there to help.
Who can play on my Minecraft server?
In general, anyone who owns Minecraft can play on your Minecraft server.
How many players can play on my server at the same time?
The maximum number of concurrent players depends on the hosting plan you chose at Host Honest. You can easily adjust the player count in your customer account.
Which Minecraft version do I need to play?
Minecraft Vanilla servers ship with the latest available Minecraft version by default. You can change the Minecraft server version at any time in our web management panel.
Can I generate a new map?
Sure. In our web management panel, you also have access to all of your server's files. So you can delete or rename your map, and a new one will be generated automatically.
Can I install mods?
Yes. Mods can be installed using Minecraft Forge. When ordering your Minecraft server, select "Forge" as the flavor.
Alternatively, you can book a Modpack server, which also lets you install a custom modpack.
Can I install plugins?
Yes. Plugins can be installed using Minecraft Paper. When ordering your Minecraft server, select "Paper" as the flavor.
How can I back up my server at Host Honest?
To back up your server, we recommend creating regular backups of your world and server data. Host Honest offers automatic backup features that you can enable in your control panel. It's also a good idea to create manual backups before major changes.
What do I do if my server won't start?
If your server won't start, check the following:
- Are there any error messages in the log files? You'll find these in your server folder.
- Make sure your hosting plan has sufficient resources (RAM, CPU).
Can I set up password protection?
Unfortunately, it's not possible to set a password on Minecraft servers. However, you can add players to the whitelist to grant them access to the server.
Can I get a dedicated IP address?
Yes, on request. Please note that a dedicated IP address is provisioned manually by us. Provisioning can take up to 24 hours, after which your server will be restarted automatically.
