What is Rust?
Rust is a multiplayer survival game in which players gather resources, build bases and fight other players or the environment to survive in an open world. It offers intense PvP and PvE experiences and is known for its active communities.
What are the system requirements for a Rust server?
Host Honest recommends the following requirements for Rust servers:
RAM: at least 15 GB for smaller servers (up to 32 players), 20+ GB for larger servers.
CPU: at least 3 vCores.
Storage: 20-40 GB of available disk space, depending on how many mods you install and how large the map should be.
What's the difference between Basic plans and the regular plans?
Our Basic plans offer a particularly affordable entry point but are limited in performance compared to the regular plans.
- RAM allocation: You get a fixed base amount of RAM, and any additional demand is covered via SWAP, which can negatively affect performance.
- CPU power: The number of allocated CPU cores is below the recommended minimum for many game servers.
Because of this, we cannot guarantee consistently stable or smooth operation of your game server on Basic plans, especially for resource-hungry games or mods. They're ideal for testing, small private projects, or budget-conscious users with modest requirements.
Which maps are available for my Rust server?
At Host Honest, you can:
Generate standard procedural maps (with a freely chosen seed number).
Install pre-built community maps.
Upload and configure your own custom maps.
Can I install mods or plugins on my Rust server?
Yes! At Host Honest you can install plugins and mods, especially with the popular Oxide/uMod extension. It gives you access to:
Admin tools (e.g. AdminRadar, Vanish)
Gameplay modifications (e.g. kits, teleportation)
Community management (e.g. player rankings, clans)
How do I install Oxide/uMod on my Rust server?
Oxide/uMod is easy to install:
1. Open your Host Honest game server control panel.
2. Select your server.
3. Click Setup.
4. Set "Modding Framework" to the framework you want.
5. Restart your server
How do I update my Rust server when updates are released?
Rust receives regular updates, which Host Honest makes easy to access. Just restart your server and the latest update will be installed automatically.
How often is my Rust server wiped?
Currently, there is no automated wipe on our Rust servers.
But don't worry: we're actively working on integrating this feature into our system, so we can offer you regular, automatic wipes in the future, exactly the way you want them (e.g. monthly, force wipes, etc.).
Until then, you can run wipes manually via the panel, or reach out to our support team with any questions, we're happy to help quickly and without hassle!
Can I enable crossplay for Rust?
Rust currently doesn't offer crossplay between PC and consoles. Your Host Honest Rust server only supports the PC version.
How can I ban players or grant admin rights?
To manage players:
- Open your control panel and edit the users.cfg file.
- Use commands like ownerid <Steam ID> to grant admin rights.
- For temporary or permanent bans, you can use the server chat (ban command) or install Oxide plugins.
How do I secure my Rust server against cheaters and hackers?
Host Honest supports several security measures:
Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is enabled by default.
Use Oxide/uMod plugins like AdminRadar or Vanish for admin monitoring.
Host Honest offers firewall and DDoS protection options to keep your community safe.
How do I improve the performance of my Rust server?
To optimize your server:
Choose a server plan with sufficient resources (RAM and CPU).
Reduce the number of unnecessary plugins.
Optimize the map size to match your player count.
Run regular wipes to avoid lag.
